World AIDS Day is December 1st!

As we celebrate the holidays, we must not forget that we are still fighting many battles in our society. One of them being a war against HIV and AIDS. Let's do what we can and plan to do something in commemoration of World AIDS Day and all of the people suffering from HIV and AIDS.

For one, we can support places, like the AIDS library that house collections of HIV and AIDS related poetry. The AIDS Library serves the community through delivery of information on HIV, such as treatments, nutrition, and history of the pandemic, and referrals to regional and national resources.

Here is a link to some of the poetry/creative writing work - https://www.aidslibrary.org/poetry-creative-writing/

You can also find some online work here at The Body - http://www.thebody.com/index/aidsart/aidsart_poetry.html

One of my favorites is from the HIV Here & Now Project by Iris Lee. See below.

We're Still Here

By Iris Lee

We meet and speak
less now
about pills and T-cells,
so glad to be here
when so many aren't.

We meet and speak
less now
of memorials and tears
and the fear,
and more now

about "what now?"
when we meet now
in the old bars.
We speak about the theater
and other pleasure those others

who aren't
are missing because of
no pills, vanished T-cells.
But here we are,
meeting and speaking,

pill-poppers extraordinaire
trying to tell
dumb youngsters in bars
our stories but
they aren't interested.
Kids!
